Volunteer Opportunities

Sector Committee Members

We are currently recruiting subject matter experts and passionate community members to join one of our three Sector Committees: Transportation Sector Committee, Workplaces Sector Committee, Residential Sector Committee. Note: We are specifically in need of Workplaces committee members.

Each committee relates to one of the three largest greenhouse gas emitting sectors within Waterloo Region. Sector committees take a ‘birds-eye’ view of their sector, being aware of initiatives related to climate change mitigation within the boundaries of Waterloo Region, to identify and accelerate progress toward achieving our community’s GHG reduction target. By acting as connectors and catalysts, sector committees support the achievement of our community’s long-term target of an 80% GHG reduction by 2050.

Time Commitment: 2021 Sector committee members must agree to a nine-month commitment to their committee. This includes one monthly meeting (1.25 hours) and at least 4 hours of additional time working on projects/initiatives monthly. Note: 2021 Committee activities will be conducted virtually and remotely for the foreseeable future.

Application Information: Please review our Terms of Reference for more information about the role and responsibilities, and click here to apply by Monday, April 12, 2021.

Sector Committee Advisors

Sector Committee Advisors are individuals with expertise related to a specific lens of sustainability and climate change mitigation, who make themselves available to the ClimateActionWR staff and sector committee members for questions and to provide feedback on committee projects. This will occur on an as-needed basis throughout the 2021 term (April to December).

Time Commitment: 2021 Sector committee advisors must agree to a nine-month commitment. This includes attending one quarterly meeting with sector committee members (1.5 hours) and up to 3 hours of additional time per month for questions and to provide feedback on projects. Note: 2021 activities will be conducted virtually and remotely for the foreseeable future.

Application Information: Please review our Terms of Reference for more information about the role and responsibilities, and click here to apply by Monday, April 12, 2021.
